Kremer Borax - tincal

Borax forms large, mostly white, more rarely blue, gray or green monoclinic holohedral crystals in nature. When crystallizing out of borax solutions, colorless crystals are formed which, when exposed to dry air, weather superficially to a white powder with loss of crystal water. The name borax comes from the Arabic word buraq.

Application:
To glazes for earthenware and porcelain wares, in enamel manufacture, to make lenses and temperature-resistant glasses, as a flux in brazing (dissolves interfering oxides), as an additive to soap (water-softening effect moderate), to stiffen fabrics, as an additive to tanning broths, to dissolve casein.
